Quick Pick – Sunday Week 1: Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs

Buffalo Bills @ Kansas City Chiefs Sun. Sept. 11, 2011 1 p.m. EST

Last year the Kansas City Chiefs were able to have a breakout season with their new franchise quarterback Matt Cassel getting to the Pro Bowl and having one of the best running back combinations in the NFL behind him in the up-and-coming Jamaal Charles and veteran Thomas Jones. With the quarterback play of Cassel and the hardnosed running of Charles and Jones, the Chiefs were able to win the AFC West division title and make it into the playoffs for the first time in years, netting sports betting fiends hefty profits for properly placed futures bets on the team.

This year the Chiefs would love to repeat as AFC West division champions and get back into the postseason, but things aren’t looking that great after a very forgettable preseason (0-4) where they couldn’t get anything going offensively.

In the first week of the NFL regular season, the Kansas City Chiefs will be hosting the lowly Buffalo Bills in what will almost certainly be a defensive battle. The Bills are by no means in the playoff conversation this season as they have no way of getting their offense going on the ground or in the air, but their defense did get some much needed improvements over the offseason, especially in the run defense category.

The Chiefs should win this football, but I believe it will be much tougher than anticipated with the Buffalo taking away Kansas City’s running game. With that being said, I believe there could be an upset brewing here with the Bills either pulling out a win or the Chiefs not covering the -5.5 point spread.

Take the Bills at +5.5.
