Week 5 FanDuel Cheat Sheet

Looking to succeed in FanDuel this week? Well, if you want to hit it big in a tournament, you’re going to look for two things: great matchups and players less than 15%, ideally less than 10 %, owned by other fantasy players.

We’ve scoured through a Week 5 Thursday tournament on FanDuel with over 10,000 players to get an understanding of the player ownage rates for this week, and we’ve cross-referenced that with the defense rating at Football Outsiders to highlight players that both have a good matchups and aren’t that popular. Avoid Rashad Jennings, who has a great matchup but is 30% owned this week, and Antonio Brown, another great matchup but he is owned by 24% of teams. The more owned a player is, the less it helps you out in a tournament when they’re on your lineup and they do well.

Enjoy, and good luck.

Quarter Backs

Drew Brees (vs. TB, 32nd vs. pass): $9100 – 8% owned

Phillip Rivers (vs. NYJ, 16th vs. pass): $8900 – 7% owned

Jay Cutler (@ CAR, 22nd vs. pass): $7700 – 4% owned

Why is Rivers on here if the Jets aren’t that bad, only average, against the pass? Because the Jets boast an NFL-best rush defense and injuries to Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead have wrecked San Diego’s run game anyway. The Chargers will have to be even more pass-happy than they already are. Rivers has been on fire since last season, and he will put up big numbers yet again this week.

Brees is playing at home against the worst pass defense in the league. If you can fit a lineup around his salary, he’s a no-brainer.

Running Backs

Demarco Murray (vs. HOU, 29th vs. run): $9000 – 15% owned

Jamaal Charles (@ SF, 11th vs. run, 28th vs. RB as a receiver): $8400 – 3% owned

Andre Ellington (@ DEN, 12th vs. run): $6800 – 4% owned

Denver actually has a solid run defense, thanks large in part to Terrance “Pot Roast” Knighton holding down the middle of the d-line. Even still, Marshawn Lynch was able to put up 88 yards and a touchdown against Denver in Week 3, and Knile Davis 79 yards and 2 touchdowns in Week 2. Ellington should put up similar stats plus a good share of reception (remember, FanDuel is PPR). This gives him excellent value for his salary and under 5% ownage rate.

Charles started slow and with some injury but picked it up last week with 90 rushing yards, 1 rushing and 2 receiving touchdowns. Luckily for you his matchup with the 49ers has scared most owner off, but this is actually a great matchup because San Fran struggles covering RBs as receivers, and Charles is among the league’s best receiving RBs.

Wide Receivers

Keenan Allen (vs. NYJ, 17th vs.WR1): $7000 – 10% owned

Brian Quick (@ PHI, 13th vs. WR1): $6000 – 10% owned

Andrew Hawkins (@ TEN, 20th vs. WR1): $5300 – 9% owned

Allen Hurns (vs. PIT, 21st vs. WR1): $5300 – 6% owned

There are a lot of good cheap options at receiver this week that will allow you to spend big on your QB’s, RB’s, even TE’s if you want to splurge on Jimmy Graham or Julius Thomas. Undrafted free agent Allen Hurns has a chance of replicating his huge numbers he put up in Week 1 (110 yards, 2 touchdowns), as both Cecil Shorts and Marqise are out this week with injury. Hurns has 3 TD’s in 4 weeks and the league’s second-highest average of yards per catch at 21.2. This week he has less competition and an enticing matchup with a weak Pittsburgh secondary.
