Week 17 NFL Picks: 4 Upsets Worth Chasing

The NFL playoffs are so close, we can smell them. Of course, week 17 brings one more week of regular season chaos, with 10 games holding playoff implications. There is still a ton of NFL betting to be done with one week to go in the regular season, so let’s brush over some nice upsets to monitor.

Whether you take these games straight up, against the spread or with points, we’ve found four games worth betting on in week 17:

Lions over Packers (-7.5)

Detroit hasn’t won at Lambeau Field since 1991. To win the NFC North this year, they’ll have to do just that in week 17. It sounds like you’d be crazy to bet on the Lions taking this game, but their defense actually dominated Aaron Rodgers and co. earlier in the year and they’ll be pumped up to win this game. Both teams could surprise by resting key players since both are in the playoffs already, but a lot is riding on this one. Anything but a close game would be rather shocking, making this a line to bet on with the Lions.

Bears over Vikings (-7)

Jay Cutler is back in the saddle this week and he takes on a Vikings team that he beat just a few weeks ago. Cutler and the Bears have been a mess, but they are at least better than Minnesota right now. They’re oddly the underdogs, so you should feel comfortable about taking them against the spread.

Redskins over Cowboys (-6.5)

Washington beat Dallas in their first meeting and now they get the ‘Boys on their home field to end the year. Robert Griffin III also is coming off a solid week 16 performance, so the ‘Skins could be gaining some momentum heading into next year. Dallas already has the division wrapped up, so it’s possible they don’t come in with everything they’ve got. The Redskins would love to get the sweep and divisional showdowns are always toss ups, so this one is worth considering for the line, as well as straight up.

Rams over Seahawks (-12.5)

Say, what? It sounds crazy for the Rams to beat the Seahawks, but St. Louis did beat Seattle earlier in the year at home and the ‘Hawks already know they’re in the playoffs. Seattle still needs to clinch the NFC West and could earn a first round bye, but the Rams have a nasty defense and won’t let the Seahawks march over them without some resistance. Picking the Rams straight up might be a little silly, but with two good defenses on the field this week, a -12.5 spread is one to target.
