Week 14 NFL Picks: 4 Upsets Worth Chasing
It’s always fun to place NFL bets that could go one way or the other, yet give you a nice line to chase. This week we have several interesting matchups that have favorable lines despite common thinking suggesting otherwise. If you were thinking about doing some NFL betting in week 14, take a look at these four upsets worth chasing before you finalize your NFL picks for the week:
Falcons over Packers (Line: -12.5)
Atlanta seems like a terrible team coming out of the crummy NFC South, but they’re alive in the race for their division and the playoffs at 5-7. That’s going to give them an extra spark on Monday Night Football when they take on the Packers at Lambeau Field. None of that means they’ll snag a crazy upset in a stadium the green and gold haven’t lost in all season, but they could make things interesting. Specifically with this insane line, the Falcons have to be one of the safer bets to cover in week 14. On top of that, if Matt Ryan and Julio Jones can play like they did against the Cardinals last week, this game has a chance to produce the most combined points for the week, too. Naturally, shooting for the total here (56) is a solid move.
Bills over Broncos (-10)
Denver is clearly the better offensive team and they’re at home, but they initially struggled against the Dolphins and even lost to the Patriots (AFC East teams). More importantly, they got exposed a bit a couple weeks ago against the Rams. Buffalo has the defense to go toe to toe with the Broncos, so if they can contain the explosiveness in Denver, they might be able to keep this game in the 20’s. If they can, they’ll absolutely have a chance to beat this line.
Buccaneers over Lions (-10)
Tampa Bay isn’t a team to get excited about on offense, but they could do enough this week to help their defense combat what seems to be a fairly overrated Lions team. Detroit’s defense is arguably the best in the league, but their offense has been very shaky at times and Tampa Bay’s defense has stepped it up in a big way over the past few weeks. The Bucs aren’t the best straight up pick, but I’d consider taking them to stay within this spread.
Jets over Vikings (-5.5)
It’s true that the Jets are terrible this season and the reinsertion of Geno Smith probably only makes them worse, but they actually ran the ball extremely well last week and lost by three points to the Dolphins. This week they’re on the road, but the Vikes boast a rookie passer and aren’t exactly an elite team, themselves. More specifically, Chris Ivory and Chris Johnson could have a field day against a very shaky Minnesota run defense. Throw in a stout Jets front line on defense, and this is a line worth chasing.
