Week 13 NFL Picks: 4 Upsets Worth Chasing
Thursday offered up three would-be intense NFL matchups, but instead all three games on Thanksgiving Day were duds and ended up being blowouts. Kudos to any NFL betting men or women that placed bets on the Eagles pulling off an upset in Dallas, and the same goes for anyone picking the Seahawks and Lions to win (although those two were far less difficult to predict).
The difficult ones (Eagles over Cowboys) are why we’re here each week, not necessarily to tell you who to pick, but to point out why certain upsets may deserve your undivided attention. We have four potential upsets once again that you may want to bet on this week, whether because of the spread or sheer possibility for a monster upset:
Saints over Steelers (Line: -5)
New Orleans hasn’t been winning games (they dropped three straight on their own field!), but they’ve been in just about every game this year and we know by now the Steelers aren’t a juggernaut. Drew Brees and co. badly need to get a win and Pittsburgh has been very shaky lately. I don’t know if the Saints pull the upset off completely with a win, but they’ll have a shot at beating this spread.
Chargers over Ravens (-6)
San Diego is a potential playoff team an they an the Ravens could be fighting for their playoff lives in week 13. I’m not saying the Bolts are remotely close to locks on the road in a huge game, but I’m not so sure this game is separated by more than 2-3 points, either. Choosing the winner is a toss up, but the Chargers can take these points.
Raiders over Rams (-6.5)
Oakland finally got a win and the Rams aren’t a whole lot better, so you have to like the -6.5 line this week for Oakland. I don’t love Derek Carr and co. in St. Louis against that nasty front line, but the Raiders were much more cohesive on both sides of the ball last week and have been giving opponents hell for weeks now. They just might give the Rams a fight here and earn a second straight win in week 13.
Titans over Texans (-7)
Houston beat up rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger is his pro debut four weeks ago, but he’s back to get his revenge against J.J. Watt and company. He just might get it, too, as the Texans lost their new starting quarterback for the year and Mettenberger might be ready for a shootout after improving over the last few weeks. It could easily be another blowout for the Texans, but neither of these teams are going to the playoffs, so all bets are pretty much off. Taking the Texans straight up is probably preferred, but Tennessee could have a shot at keeping this one within a touchdown.
If you’re going after sheer points this week, the Packers and Patriots are probably your best bet. A combined 58.5 points is a lofty goal, but a score of 31-30 would get you there and is pretty realistic given how amazing both of these offenses are playing.
