Week 12 NFL Picks: 4 Upsets Worth Chasing

There are huge upsets in the NFL on a regular basis. Just last week the St. Louis Rams somehow dominated the visiting Denver Broncos. A few weeks before that the Washington Redskins went into Dallas and ousted what seems to be a very good Cowboys team. These aren’t upsets we want to predict or really even see coming, but they probably had lines that begged for us to take a crack at them. Needless to say, if you bet on the Rams last week, you were pretty thrilled with how that game turned out.

That can happen again in week 12, and that’s why we’re shoving our our four favorite upsets to chase. That doesn’t mean we’re picking these games one way or the other, but if you want a fun upset with a good line to chase after, one of these four contests may do the trick:

Titans over Eagles (Line: -11)

Tennessee really isn’t a team to have much confidence in, especially when they’re on the road. However, rookie quarterback Zacg Mettenberger has flashed some nice ability the past two weeks and the Titans gave the Steelers quite the scare in week 11. That, and we saw last week that Mark Sanchez just might still be Mark Sanchez of old. The Eagles are at home and could remain a high powered offense, but the Titans have actually been okay against the pass at times this year. Tennessee shutting down Sanchez and LeSean McCoy continuing on his path of mediocrity are two things working together to make the Titans worth betting on. If nothing else, that huge 11-point spread is something worth working with.

Dolphins over Broncos (-7)

The Miami Dolphins have quietly turned into a pretty good football team, while the Denver Broncos just lost to the lowly Rams. That’s saying something, too, considering they got their tails whipped last week and scored just one touchdown. Denver is a totally different animal at home, but if the Rams can shut down the Broncos, Miami at least has a chance. The Fins can stop the run at times and a secondary led by the feisty Brent Grimes is also extremely dangerous. The Broncos probably are the pick to go with straight up, but this is a spread worth chasing.

Lions over Patriots (-7)

The New England Patriots seem invincible now that they’re on a sick six-game winning streak, but just six weeks ago we we talking as if this kingdom had an end that was rapidly approaching. The Pats are better than a lot of people thought they were, but the Lions might be, too. They have just one more loss than New England and boast the top rank in both points allowed and total yardage allowed. In other words, if someone is going to waltz into Foxboro and slap the Patriots around, it just might be the Lions.

Cardinals over Seahawks (-6.5)

Seattle seems to be a shell of it’s former self this year, while the Cardinals are dominating the NFC West with a stout 9-1 mark. That record is sure to fade a bit down the stretch with no Carson Palmer, but until it does we have to think their nasty defense and explosive passing game can keep trucking along. If they can, beating the Seahaws is absolutely possible – if not likely. In what should be a low-scoring defensive battle, you have to at least like them to cover this beatable spread.
