NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: Seattle Seahawks
In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.
Each position is ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.
Offense
QB Russell Wilson: Average
RB Marshawn Lynch: Elite
WR1 Doug Baldwin: Above-average
WR2 Jermaine Kearse: Average
Slot WR Percy Harvin: Elite
TE Zach Miller: Average
O-line: LT Russell Okung, LG James Carpenter, C Max Unger, RG J.R. Sweezy, RT Michael Bowie: Average
You may be incredulous: how can Russell Wilson be just average? In real football, you would absolutely want this Super Bowl Champion on your team. In fantasy football, however, where stats are the only thing that matters, Wilson is a poor option. He rarely breaks 300 passing yards in a game. Maybe the defense constantly keeping them ahead and having an elite RB in Marshawn Lynch drain away Wilson’s potential for elite or even above-average production. Much less heralded QBs, such as Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, and even Ryan Tannehill, are likely to get you more fantasy points than Wilson.
Injury makes Harvin a gamble but he will pay dividends if he stays healthy. Baldwin is an underrated sleeper option who will benefit from Golden Tate leaving via free agency to Detroit. Expect Lynch to overcome average line play with numbers similar to his past three seasons, in each of which he recorded 1,200+ yards and 11+ TDs.
Defense
CB1 Richard Sherman: Elite
CB2 Byron Maxwell: Above-average
Nickel CB Jeremy Lane: Average
Safeties: SS Kam Chancellor, FS Earl Thomas: Elite
Linebackers: WLB K.J. Wright, MLB Bobby Wagner, SLB Bruce Irvin: Above-average
D-line: DE Michael Bennett, DT Brandon Mebane, DT Tony McDaniel, DE Cliff Avril: Elite
This is easily the best defense in the league. Despite not adding any notable players and losing some notable players (DE Chris Clemons, CB Walter Thurmond, DE/DT Red Bryant) to free agency, the Legion of Boom is again poised to dominate. The loss of Clemons only gives Cliff Avril more shots at the QB, and Thurmond will hardly be missed considering the emergence of Byron Maxwell. Don’t take any offensive player, no matter how skilled the individual, when they face Seattle. Just don’t do it.
