NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: New York Jets

In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.

Each position is ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.

Offense

QB Geno Smith, Michael Vick: Average

RB Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, Bilal Powell: Average

WR1 Eric Decker: Above-average

WR2 Stephen Hill: Poor

Slot WR Jeremy Kerley: Above-average

TE Jace Amaro: Average

O-line: LT D’Brickashaw Ferguson, LG Brian Winters, C Nick Mangold, RG Willy Colon, RT Breno Giacomini: Average

Unless Ivory breaks out this year, which he might, this trio of running backs shows no stars, only decent players who will each limit the other’s production. And despite some good receiver options, inconsistent quarterback play doesn’t bode well for the passing game, either. Avoid the Jets’ offense altogether.

One exception: the rookie Amaro. He was a play maker in college and could make an immediate impact, especially in games when he is facing a team with a poor linebacker corps.

Defense

CB1 Dee Milliner: Average

CB2 Kyle Wilson: Average

Nickel CB Dimitri Patterson: Above-average

Safeties: SS Dawan Landry, FS Calvin Pryor: Average

Linebackers: OLB Calvin Pace, ILB David Harris, ILB Demario Davis, OLB Antwan Barnes: Poor

D-line: DE Muhammad Wilkerson, NT Damon Harrison, DE Sheldon Richardson: Elite

The Jets’ d-line is one of the best in the league, but the rest of the defense is average. Never take RBs or slot WRs against this secondary. QBs and outside WRs aren’t out of the question, though.
