NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: New York Giants
In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.
Each position is ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.
Offense
QB Eli Manning: Above-average
RB Rashad Jennings: Average
WR1 Odell Beckham: Average
WR2 Rueben Randle: Average
Slot WR Victor Cruz: Above-average
TE Kellen Davis: Poor
O-line: LT William Beatty, LG Geoff Schwartz, C Weston Richburg, RG Chris Snee, RT Justin Pugh: Average
Yes, Eli had a terrible year in 2013. Expect that to be more an anomaly than a new norm. The additions of Schwartz and Richburg to the interior o-line should really help take the pressure off Eli. Beckham should develop into a trusty target, but I wouldn’t expect too much out of him his rookie year. Cruz, on the other hand, is a proven receiver who you should always consider taking when he faces poor to average nickel CBs.
Defense
CB1 Dominic Rodgers-Cromartie: Above-average
CB2 Prince Akumamara: Average
Nickel CB Walter Thurmond: Above-average
Safeties: SS Antrel Rolle, FS Stevie Brown: Above-average
Linebackers: WLB Jameel McClain, MLB Jon Beason, SLB Jacquian Williams: Poor
D-line: DE Jason Pierre-Paul, DT Cullen Jenkins, DT Jonathon Hankins, DE Robert Ayers: Above-average
The Giants revamped their secondary with the excellent additions of DRC and Thurmond. Don’t take QBs or RBs against New York. RBs, on the other hand, have a decent match up against a Giants’ front 7 that is much more adept at rushing the passer than stopping the run.
