NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: Green Bay Packers
In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.
Each position in ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.
Offense
QB Aaron Rodgers: Elite
RB Eddie Lacy: Above-average
WR1 Jordy Nelson: Above-average
WR2 Davante Adams: Average
Slot WR Randall Cobb: Above-average
TE Andrew Quarless: Poor
O-line: LT David Bakthiari, LG Josh Sitton, C Corey Linsley, RG T.J. Lang, RT Bryan Bulaga: Average
Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He has reportedly lost 10 pounds and taken up yoga in an effort to avoid future injury, so may even stay on the field for the entire season, unlike last year. With a ridiculous level of talent of his own and two dangerous receiving weapons in Nelson and Cobb, Rodgers and both of those receivers are an excellent play against poor to average secondaries.
Lacy is also a player you should consider taking. He doesn’t have a great line to run behind, but lead blocker John Kuhn will help him out in that regard. Lacy surpassed the expectations most had for his rookie season, and his production should only increase with a year of NFL experience under his belt.
Defense
CB1 Sam Shields: Above-average
CB2 Tramon Williams: Average
Nickel CB Casey Hayward: Above-average
Safeties: SS Morgan Burnett, FS Ha Ha Clinton-Dix: Average
Linebackers: OLB Nick Perry, ILB Brad Jones, ILB A.J. Hawk, OLB Clay Matthews: Above-average
D-line: DE Julius Peppers, NT B.J. Raji, DE Mike Daniels: Average
The Packers added a big name this offseason with former division-rival Peppers, but his best days are behind him. The real star of this defense is Matthews, who has enough talent to boost an otherwise average linebacker corps to an above-average rating. Overall, this defense should fare better than its terrible showing in 2013, but is still not exceptionally strong. There are no glaring weaknesses or strengths here.
