NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: Dallas Cowboys

In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.

Each position in ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.

Offense

QB Tony Romo: Above-average

RB Demarco Murray: Above-average

WR1 Dez Bryant: Above-average

WR2 Terrence Williams: Average

Slot WR Cole Beasley: Average

TE Jason Witten: Above-average

O-line: LT Tyron Smith, LG Ronald Leary, C Travis Frederick, RG Zach Martin, RT Doug Free: Above-average

Some may believe that Dez belongs in the elite category, but he is just too inconsistent to deserve anything more than an above-average rating. Most weeks his salary doesn’t match up with production.

Demarco, on the other hand, often outplays his salary. He is highly recommended when facing a poor run defense. Murray is also valuable as a pass catcher; use him in leagues that award points per reception. Take advantage of Romo’s reputation as a choker: he is still a top 10 QB and always a good play when facing poor to average secondaries.

Defense

CB1 Morris Claiborne: Average

CB2 Brandon Carr: Average

Nickel CB Orlando Scandrick: Average

Safeties: SS J.J. Wilcox, FS Barry Church: Poor

Linebackers: WLB Bruce Carter, MLB Andrew Hitchens (Sean Lee injured), SLB Justin Durant: Poor

D-line: DE George Selvie, DT Henry Melton, DT Nick Hayden, DE Demarcus Lawrence: Average

The Cowboys defense ranked 27th against the run and 30th against the pass in 2013, and in the off-season this defense managed to lose their two best players with Demarcus Ware leaving for the Broncos in free agency and Sean Lee suffering a season-ending injury before the season even started. Any offensive player, especially if that player is a wide receiver or quarterback, is safe to take when facing this terrible defense.
