NFL Draft: Projected Top 5 Picks

1. Houston Texans select DE Jadeveon Clowney (South Carolina)

Yes, the Texans already have J.J. Watt, but you can never have too many pass rushers. Clowney is just too talented to pass on.

2. St. Louis Rams select WR Sammy Watkins (Clemson)

The Rams traded up into the top 10 last year to select Tavon Austin. While he should develop into an excellent receiver, Austin’s size (5’ 8”, 180 lbs.) has him confined to slot duties. The Rams are still lacking a taller receiver who play outside and stretch the field. Watkins is that guy. If the Rams are really sticking with Bradford at quarterback, they’ll need all the offensive weapons they can get.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars select QB Teddy Bridgewater (Louisville)

Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell was the Director of College Scouting for the Atlanta Falcons when they selected Matt Ryan with the third overall selection in the 2008 draft.

After witnessing the success of Ryan, Caldwell will spend another third overall selection on a thinner-than-ideal quarterback with excellent poise in the pocket and the accuracy to set receivers up to pick up yards after the catch. Jags fans will rejoice at no longer having to endure the always-average Chad Henne under center.

4. Cleveland Browns select WR Mike Evans (Texas A&M)

The Browns may select a quarterback here, but I think Hoyer showed enough promise in 2013 to justify starting another season. With Josh Gordon and Evans on the receiver corps, opposing secondaries will be stretched thin. With the Browns excellent offensive line and these two receivers, Hoyer has every reason to be successful, and no excuse to fail.

5. Oakland Raiders select OT Greg Robinson (Auburn)

The Raiders terribly mismanaged their offensive line personal this offseason, letting the young and talented Jared Veldheer slip away to the Cardinals, despite having more than enough cap room to bring him back. The Raiders tried to replace him with the Ram’s Roger Saffold, but Saffold failed his physical, which voided his contract and sent him packing back to St. Louis.

The Raiders will look to rectify these errors by added an elite tackle prospect from this year’s draft. They will get just that in Robinson, whose nasty streak and aggressive playing style compares to 2013 first overall selection Eric Fisher.
