Johnny Manziel Falls to Browns in 2014 NFL Draft

It was a wild ride, but Johnny Football finally found a home on May 8th. Many had speculated that Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel could experience a bit of a tumble in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft, but few truly expected him to fall all the way to the 22nd pick of the draft.

After seeing University of Central Florida product Blake Bortles hear his name called at the number three overall selections by the Jacksonville Jaguars, the man who looks completely comfortable off the field suddenly looked anything but, off of it.

Manziel waited patiently at his table, clearly not happy about being passed over, pick by pick, but was all smiles when Cleveland finally traded up from their number 26 overall selection, swapping picks with the Philadelphia Eagles.

While Manziel was easily one of the most polarizing figures heading into the 2014 NFL Draft, his natural talent and the extreme need for franchise quarterbacks was certain to land him in the first round. It just took longer for it to happen than anyone really thought.

Despite his climatic fall, Manziel was still just the second quarterback off the draft board on Thursday night, while several quarterback-needy teams will enter the second round of the draft still searching for answers at quarterback.

Their answer won’t be found with Johnny Football, as the Browns will now boast one of the most exciting and most popular rookie quarterbacks in recent memory.

More than just not being able to roster Manziel anymore, the teams that passed on him might even go on to wish they had taken Manziel. Manziel himself stated before the draft that any team that passed on him would “regret it”. If he’s right, 21 NFL teams are going to have a tough time swallowing that pill over the next decade.
