Falcons Not Interested in Top Pick in Draft?

The rumors never stop swirling when it comes to the NFL Draft. Despite several reports over the past few months saying that the Atlanta Falcons might trade up for the top pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the team is reportedly not interested in doing so at all.

Per SportsRadio 610 Houston, Atlanta is not interested in working with the Houston Texans to acquire the draft’s number one pick, as doing so would demand too much in compensation.

While the Falcons are content not landing the #1 overall pick, that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in moving up in the draft, however.

Atlanta has even been tied heavily to Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson recently, and has been known to be interested in the draft’s top two pass rushers and offensive tackles. Sitting at the number six overall pick, though, the Falcons clearly know they’re in danger of missing out on all four of their supposedly coveted prospects: Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack, Jake Matthews and Robinson.

If the Falcons have their heart set on landing one of those four players, they will almost certainly have to make a play to move up in the draft. If the reports of them not wanting to deal for the draft’s top pick are legit, then the St. Louis Rams at the number two spot appear to be the most realistic trading partner at the moment.

After all, if the Rams stand pat at number two overall, they are likely to pick either Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack or Greg Robinson, depending on who hasn’t already been taken with the top pick. Atlanta would then have to wait through three more selections and hope their other highly touted prospects aren’t gone, as well.

It’s a waiting game the aggressive Falcons probably don’t intend on playing. Don’t be shocked if we hear of a big move from Atlanta in the coming days.
