What’s Next for Adrian Peterson After Pleading Guilty to Misdemeanor Assault?

Adrian Peterson’s days in court are over. Peterson agreed to a plea deal, accepting a misdemeanor charge of reckless assault. Per the plea, Peterson will not have to spend a day in jail, instead he was sentenced to pay a $4,000 fine and put in 80 days of community service.

It remains to be seen if Peterson, who has already missed 8 games of the 2014 season, will be subject to further punishment from the NFL. They could decide he has already missed enough time and allow him back into the league with open arms, but in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal, it seems unlikely that Commissioner Roger Goodell doesn’t use this as chance to flex his muscle and show he can be tough on off-the-field issues involving violence.

Reports say that although the legal case is over, the NFL will not immediately reinstate Peterson. They still need more time to figure out their best course of action.
