NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: San Diego Chargers
In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.
Each position is ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.
Offense
QB Philip Rivers: Above-average
RB Ryan Matthews, Danny Woodhead: Above-average
WR1 Keenan Allen: Above-average
WR2 Malcom Floyd: Above-average
Slot WR Eddie Royal: Average
TE Antonio Gates, Ladarius Green: Above-average
O-line: LT King Dunlap, LG Chad Rinehart, C Nick Hardwick, RG Chris Watt, RT D.J. Fluker: Above-average
The Chargers possess the most balanced offense in the NFL. There are no elite talents here (although Allen may be one in a year or two), but San Diego is stacked with above-average players at every skill position. If Floyd stays healthy he can be a valuable sleeper addition to your roster; he will benefit from his role as WR2 for a QB as skilled as Rivers.
Defense
CB1 Jason Verrett: Average
CB2 Shareece Wright: Poor
Nickel CB Steve Williams: Average
Safeties: SS Marcus Gilchrist, FS Eric Weddle: Above-average
Linebackers: OLB Dwight Freeney, ILB Donald Butler, ILB Manti Te’o, OLB Jeremiah Attaochu: Average
D-line: DE Kendall Reyes, NT Sean Lissemore, DE Corey Liuget: Poor
Unfortunately, this is one terrible defense. Weddle and Freeney stand out as the only reliable players, and the Chargers desperately hope first-round pick Verrett will be able to immediately contribute to this depleted secondary. Offensive players of all positions have an excellent matchup against San Diego.
