NFL Fantasy Football Matchup Cheat Sheet: Pittsburgh Steelers
In NFL daily fantasy leagues, matchups are important. Pay attention to favorable matchups rather than the overall quality of individual players. It is better to select an above-average offensive player facing poor to average defense than an elite talent facing above-average to elite defense.
Each position is ranked according to one of these four ratings: Elite, Above-average, Average, and Poor.
Offense
QB Ben Roethlisberger: Above-average
RB Le’veon Bell: Above-average
WR1 Antonio Brown: Elite
WR2 Markus Wheaton: Average
Slot WR Lance Moore: Average
TE Heath Miller: Average
O-line: LT Kelvin Beachum, LG Ramon Foster, C Maurkice Pouncey, RG David DeCastro, RT Marcus Gilbert: Above-average
Antonio Brown is an underrated player, but he won’t be for long. Last year, he showed that he could be much more than just an able replacement for Mike Wallace, playing at a level on par with Demaryius Thomas, Brandon Marshall, and A.J. Green, who fall into the “as good as you can be without being Calvin Johnson” tier of receivers. Take Brown on any week he is matched up against a poor-to-average CB1.
Defense
CB1 Cortez Allen: Average
CB2 Ike Taylor: Poor
Nickel CB William Gay: Average
Safeties: SS Troy Polamalu, FS Mike Mitchell: Above-average
Linebackers: OLB Jason Worilds, ILB Lawrence Timmons, ILB Ryan Shazier, OLB Jarvis Jones: Above-average
D-line: DE Cameron Heyward, NT Steve McLendon, DE Stephon Tuitt: Above-average
Due to a particularly weak trio of starting cornerbacks, this secondary is vulnerable. QBs and WRs have an excellent matchup against Pittsburgh. In contrast, RBs will have a difficult time facing this tough front 7. Avoid the ground game and stick to passing on the Steelers.
