Baltimore Ravens Eyeing TE Eric Ebron in Draft?

The Baltimore Ravens were starved on offense in 2013, thanks to an injury to tight end Dennis Pitta and a trade that shipped off wide receiver Anquan Boldin to the San Francisco 49ers.

A year later, the Ravens’ brass is trying to make certain quarterback Joe Flacco has all the weapons he needs to succeed. That prompted Baltimore to sign free agent wide receiver Steve Smith this offseason, while also locking up the aforementioned Pitta.

According to reports, they’re not done. Despite having Pitta and Owen Daniels in place at the tight end position, the Ravens are very much interested in North Carolina tight end Eric Ebron.

Draft Insider Tony Pauline reports that the Ravens “covet” Ebron due to his size and freakish athleticism for the position. Pauline labels Ebron as Baltimore’s “No. 1 target” as they enter May 8th’s 2014 NFL Draft.

A stud at North Carolina, Ebron is easily this year’s top ranked tight end thanks to ideal size and speed for the position. While an extremely gifted receiver with good speed and ball skills, Ebron is an even more attractive prospect due to his already solid blocking ability and willingness to get even better in that department.

While many draft experts had been assuming the Ravens would be staring down a wide receiver when they pick for the first time in Thursday’s draft, Pauline suggests their target will in fact be a tight end.

Ebron is highly ranked on many other team’s boards, however, while rumors have placed him inside the top-10. Even if he’s still available beyond the first 10 picks, Baltimore may have to consider trading up, as there are still several teams that could shock with a snagging of Ebron before he gets to Baltimore at the 17th overall selection.
